I haven’t been doing so well on my diet/exercise program for the last week and a half because I’ve been eating this! Freaking french toast with apple yumminess, two weekends in a row. There is something about going to brunch with your parents, and on dates, that makes it impossible for me to order something healthy like eggs or a veggie omelette.
So I’m South Beaching it again this week. In hopes that I can repair some of the damage I did, particularly this weekend. Food is just not something I notice when I’m with him. My head tells me that’s a good thing. My ass thinks differently! It keeps whispering to me (yes, my ass whispers) “we’re so close to fitting into the next size down of those jeans. Don’t blow it!”
Okay, okay! Back on the wagon!

Yum Squared
Sunday mornings (or, afternoons…whenever I actually get up) are decadent food days for me. Brunch days. Deliciously, maple syrup-y, crepe and french toast with Applewood Bacon days.
This Sunday I’m making filled pancakes. Warm, buttery, apple-filled pancakes. I am a yuppie and I don’t care! I LOVE MY WILLIAMS SANOMA OVERPRICED POTS, PANS, AND GADGETRY!!!

I have a serious craving for something sweet and particularly chocolate-y. These mini cakes are so wonderful looking. Meanwhile, I’m gonna go home and have a jello pudding cup:(= Not exactly the same.

It's Grillin' Time

I’m a Southerner. I worship at the alter of college football, I love baseball in the summer time. I sit on porches-front and back-and sip on sweet tea while watching the fireflies come out. Okay, maybe I saw that last one in a movie, but I could have done it! As part of my back patio makeover, I’m looking at small, table top grills. This is not an investment item. I don’t need it to be tricked out with the latest, greatest gadgets for grilling things. What I need it to do is allow me to cook a few burgers/hotdogs/cobs of corn on blamy nights when the mood strikes me.

I don’t do electric grills. I was raised with charcoal and flames and that’s how I intend to stay. I found a few, cost effective options that I’m going to go take a look at and see what suits me best. The bare-minimum, even for me, is the one I spotted online at Ace Hardware.

I can see why it’s $10.49. I have low standards, but even this looks a little too rustic for me.

I was at the gym last week ‘reading’ this month’s Vogue (w/ the awesome Tina Fey on the cover) when I came across a short article written by Sophie Dahl about our (hers and America’s) collective obsession with food. The article isn’t online, but I saw that she has a new cookbook/memoir (seems like this is becoming a trend) coming out and I had to look it up!
I’ve actually been a fan of Sophie Dahl from back in her modeling days, and I’ve loved almost every photograph of her in every stage of her career and weight. Who can forget that classic Opium ad? Miss Dahl’s Voluptuous Delight’s (isn’t that a fab title) sounds like an excellent book. I may have to kick Eating Animals to the curb for my spring break reading.
Of course you can’t have an emerging, leggy, female cooking enthusiast come out of England with a famous last name (yes, she of the Roald Dahl descendant) without mentioning the typical “catfight” that’s about to go down as Nigella Lawson tries to “defend her crown.”
I call bullshit on that whole angle, but the British press…they’ve got to have a semi legit reason to talk about licking frosting off of finger tips and heaving bosoms in the kitchen, right? I’m sure some of the tabloids would love to throw these two in some chocolate pudding and let them have at it.
But I love them both and I can’t wait to get this book.

Everyday Sunday

There are times when I wish everyday was Sunday. For me, Sundays are a lazy pace of a day. A day I allow myself crepes, pancakes, and scones with coffee. A day when I sit on my bed, Indian style (or criss-cross applesauce  as my teacher friends now say. Apparently Indian style is no longer allowed in the classroom lexicon). I sip tea or coffee, watch bad Lifetime marathons and ‘read’ cookbooks.

Yup, I read cookbooks like novels. I earmark recipes to try out (that I rarely ever actually try out) and I analyze the pictures and create scenarios in my mind in which the recipe would be a perfect fit.

One of my favorite books to read is Katie Brown Weekends.

yummy yummy yumm yum.

addictive

Love this stuff so god damned much!

I would buy the entire stock of this at my local Kroger and teh Publix across the street if I didn’t know for a fact that I would drink it all in one sitting.
Seriously, this is the best stuff out there, but It’s so so so addictive you have to be careful or your daily calorie intake will shoot to 5,000 without you even noticing.

Wow!
Dear Food Gods,
Please allow days like Valentines, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years to be days where calories don’t count. I’d like to eat this whole plate for breakfast!
The man who brings these to me is likely to be rewarded in a totally lewd way.

The Perfect Valentines Day Dinner!!!!
Skip the fancy restaurant! Surprise her on a random Saturday with a reservation for Le/Chez/Bon/expensive french bistro.
Pair this heart shaped awesomeness with a cheap, but delicious bottle of wine or cold beer, your lady friend’s favorite movie (C’mon, you know it’s a chick flick, probably starring the lovely Sandra Bullock. Go ahead, just pop in Two Weeks Notice) and enjoy!
Nights out are great, but cuddling by the fire (and let’s face it…doin’ “it” later that night) with the one you love is my idea of perfect.

Get ready for a deluge of Valentine’s themed arts, crafts and food!!! I want to make up a song about crafts. Maybe I can change the words of Bad Romance to Crafty Trance.
Rah-rah ah ah ah, caught in a crafty trance. Well, it doesn’t quite work, but it’s good enough for now.

Tonight the fam and I are heading to BLT Steak in Atlanta. Well, in the W Hotel downtown.
We are a family that loves food. I mean, we luuuurrrrrvvvvveeee food. I am pretty laid back when it comes to feeding myself (can of tuna and some easy mac) or even when it comes to going out with the girl’s or going on dates. It doesn’t have to be fancy, because hell…I’m poor so why would I expect someone to spend $100 on me for dinner.
But I do love going to the fancier places when it’s on the ‘rents! I’m not ashamed to admit it. BRING ME THE LOBSTER AND KEEP THE DRINKS A-COMIN’!!! Haha. It’s always great bonding and funny conversations. Well worth the bill for a little bit of family time (says the girl that never pays).
