I think I love cupcakes more than cake. These are so beautiful. Is that sad? Craving in full swing!

I have a new trainer. The other one left the gym suddenly. I dunno what happened, blah, blah, blah. These things happen (and always to me? Hmm).
Anyhoo, I really like this new trainer. We just took measurements and my weight (Oy! there were pictures involved!). She gave me new meal guidelines-as they always do-and we started working. I really like her. She has listened to what my real complaints about my body are (I hate my arms. They are huge and fatty and it’s been a pain in the ass not to be able to wear a simple tank top here in Georgia when the temps have been as hot as they’ve been this summer) and has, so far, been really great about working that.
I’m challenged and I want to succeed. I have a new burst of energy. I’m not sure where it came from, but I’m gonna go with it.
And the meal plan is, by far, the easiest one to stick to I’ve seen. It’s aprx 1200 calories a day and it’s all carbs and fruit and sandwiches in the morning and for lunch and vegetables and proteins for dinner. I eat around every 3 hours and it’s going well. You have no idea how relieved I felt when I had a bowl of cereal (Great Grains, the proper serving size, non-fat milk) and a piece of fruit. I always feel guilty when I eat cereal for some reason. I dunno, I guess carbs really have gotten a bad rap.
This morning I had waffles. FREAKING WAFFLES! With a peach compote/puree (stayed away from the syrup) that I made. Really? I’m allowed to have (frozen whole grain) waffles? And I don’t feel like a heifer? And I’m still loosing weight? SWEET JEEBUS, THIS IS AWESOME!
Behold! Waffle-y goodness:)

I love Sophie Dahl and watching her show The Delicious Miss Dahl (named after her cookbook) on YouTube makes me extremely happy. She’s making something called rhubarb and rosewater mess, which looks to be some sort of meringue with fruit compote and vanilla bean cream. I think I would like the original strawberry version but rhubarbs seem to be oh so chic right now.
And who doesn’t love that cute little retro dress she’s wearing? I do NOT look like that when I cook.
For anyone who wants to know what song is playing in the background of this delightful clip it’s I Go To Sleep by Sia.

Recipe here. Also, apricot tart! Baking is the only thing that makes me happy. Makes me fat, too. But makes me happy.

Random yumminess called Strawberry Cake Batter Ice Cream. I found this on Erin Cooks, which might become one of my new favorite sites.
I’m off to a birthday party and then to see the boy. Making the best of this rainy, rainy Saturday afternoon. I actually love the rain and at least it’s not 150 degrees. Looking forward to cake and snuggles after dark;)

Did anyone just hear what Angelo said on Top Chef? Did I hear that right?
When commenting on the quickfire challenge which involves live blue crabs:
Angelo: “Well, I had crabs. So this is just bringing back bad memories.”
Umm…overshare! Or a bad attempt at comedy/sarcasm. Kthx!

Grilled peaches make me salivate. Especially when you make them all unhealthy and caramelize some sugar over it. WHAT, WHAT!!

My parents have this mini orchard in their backyard. In the middle of the suburbs. They are not people with green thumbs. But my dad loves planting the most bizarre/awesome things.
This is a tree in their backyard we all lovingly call “the fruit cocktail.” That’s what it’s supposed to be. A tree that bears several different types of fruit. Plums, mini apples, I don’t know what else-pineapples (kidding). And don’t ask me how the people at the nursery get these trees that have this mutant fruit. There some sort of mad botany experiments happening there.
Well, this is what ‘fruit cocktail’ looked like a few weeks ago. My parents said someone or something stole every single piece of fruit on it! SAD! We didn’t get to try anything:( Frownie face times 1,000.
At least we still have the peach trees. There are a ton of peaches on it and they are allllmmoooosstttt ready to be plucked! I will be so sad if I don’t get to try one. For the first few years the squirrels got to it. This year a watchful eye is being kept! STEP OFF, SQUIRRELS!

Do they look similar? My mom and I finally made* this blackberry crumble from a 2008 edition of Southern Living that she’s been keeping on her counter for the last two years. It was pretty freaking delicious if I do say so myself. I searched for the recipe online and couldn’t find it**, but it was really simple and I’m pretty sure I can remember it. Don’t quote me. It calls for a square 8 inch glass container to bake it in (we used a rectangle…oh well). And warning, it was very sweet.
4 Cups Blackberries
1 Cup All Purpose Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1 Egg
6 Tablespoons Melted Butter
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Put blackberries in a lightly coated dish (I just sprayed it with nonstick spray) and sprinkle lemon juice over them. Mix flour, sugar and egg until the mixture is crumbly (i had to add a bit if the melted butter. The one egg I used just wasn’t very big). Cover blackberries with crumbly mixture. Melt butter and pour over the crumbly/blackberry mixture. Bake for 35 minutes at 375. YAY!
This would be perfect for other fruits, too. Peach and apple come to mind. I don’t particularly care for raspberries but those would work too.
*And by “we baked” I mean I baked and she watched.
**Here is a similar, though not the exact same, recipe from Martha Stewart that looks good

I’m absolutely dying to have a dinner party. Something small and chic where people can come and have hours of amazing conversation as they descend into delicious excess, drunk on good food, good wine, and good company. I’m not excessively girly. I love wearing dresses and I don’t mind the color pink, I just don’t like it everywhere, all the time. But this party is delightful. Truly something I wish I’d had the pleasure to attend. Why can’t I ever plan something like this. My birthday is in winter, which I used to like, but now I kind of wish it were in fall. Sometime that isn’t scorching hot, but still available for outdoor activities. You try having an outdoor dinner party in January!

I love this! I have a cupcake stand that looks similar to this and I love it’s white wire, antique-y feel.
Incidentally, I also caught what I think was the first episode of Cupcake Wars on Food Network. I’m obsessed. This baker, Chloe, was making these vegan cupcakes that looked FREAKING DELICIOUS! Must stay away from the cupcakes for a while, though. At least I can watch other people enjoying them.
*These cupcakes aren’t from the show. They are just wonderful to look at!
cupcakies!!
These look amazing. Beyond delicious. But I’m back on the wagon (for the 800th time this year). Boston was a big splurge. I haven’t had that many fries in years. YEARS!
I have a few things coming up I’d like to look good, and feel good, for. The beginning of my final year in law school, where I’ve agreed to be a mentor to the incoming fresh meat-AKA, the 1L. My high school reunion. Fall, in general, as it’s my favorite season. I get a thrill thinking of cardigan and boot season. The leaves changing colors and the return of my beloved long sleeves! But instead of wanting to hide my figure in those things, I’d finally like to show it off.
I’m off about 25 pounds. And while I’m frustrated because I could be closer (and I should have had that sundae in the airport…or those chips…or that twix bar), I also know I’m a lot closer than I have been in a long, long time.
So goodbye delicious, non nutritious foods! I’m on a health kick!
